Museum of Fine Arts

Boston/ USA, 1999-2010

Architecturally, the project echoes themes explored in the Reichstag and the Great Court at the British Museum, combining elements of old and new and strengthening links with the community by making the building more open and accessible. At the core of the masterplan for the museum is the restoration of the logic of its Beaux-Arts plan, devised by the architect Guy Lowell.

Quartermile Masterplan

Edinburgh/ UK, 2001-2015

This scheme for the renewal of the historic Edinburgh Royal Infirmary site extends the practice’s investigations into the creation of sustainable, mixed-use urban communities, continuing themes first explored in schemes such as the King’s Cross and Duisburg Inner Harbour masterplans.

Torre Caja Madrid Tower

Madrid/ Spain, 2002-2009

This new headquarters building for Caja Madrid – the largest bank in Spain - continues investigations into the flexible workplace that can be traced through a family of recent office towers, most notably for Swiss Re and Commerzbank. This degree of flexibility results in part from pushing the service cores to the edges of the plan - a strategy first used in the design of the Hongkong Bank – to create uninterrupted 1200-square-metre floor plates.
